A little more about us!

Berwick Potteries story started in 1968 when the Handwerk family established the business in a disused tile
factory. Initially Berwick Potteries began as a tile manufacturer however, by the late 1970’s glazed pottery became
the predominant product being manufactured and the business moved from tile to pot manufacturing.

Still standing on the property is the original 100 year old down draught kiln that remains a feature at Berwick Potteries.
Over the last 50 years the Handwerk family has established themselves as one of the leading
manufacturers & now importer of pots in Australia.

The 1980’s ushered in a new era at Berwick Potteries with the purchase of a shuttle kiln. The shuttle kiln enabled a vast range of terra cotta
pots to be made and fired on the premises. The production time was significantly reduced by the shuttle kiln which resulted in the old down draught kilns being used less and less.

In the mid 1980’s Terra Cotta and Slate coloured pots were the preeminent garden accessory and it was in 1985 that the last firing of the down draught kiln was completed. Two more shuttle kilns were built to accommodate the extra production of terra cotta & slate pots.

In the 1990’s, Berwick Potteries started actively sourcing product from both Australian and international
suppliers as the product range broadened to encompass categories such as; letterboxes, water features and an extensive giftware range.

In 2001, Berwick Potteries ceased local production of its own pots. Berwick Potteries’s range continues to grow as the Handwerk family search the world over for beautiful pots and garden accessories.

Berwick Potteries vision has always been to provide our customers with a local pottery experience coupled with the service & knowledge
only a traditional manufacturer of pots can deliver. The Handwerk family continue to expand the pottery through product development and design.
